Федеральное большое жюри Сан-Диего обвинило основателя проекта BitConnect Сатиша Кумбхани в мошенничестве на сумму $2,4 млрд с помощью схемы Понци. Об этом сообщает Министерство юстиции США.
Согласно судебным документам, Кумбхани вместе с сообщниками пообещал инвесторам значительную гарантированную доходность за счет торговли на волатильном рынке криптовалют.
Проект BitConnect работал по схеме Понци, выплачивая более ранним вкладчикам деньги более поздних участников проекта, говорится в обвинительном акте. В сумме Кумбхани и сообщники якобы получили около $2,4 млрд от инвесторов.
В министерстве юстиции США добавили, что обвиняемый якобы создал ложный рыночный спрос на криптовалюту BitConnect Coin (BCC) через сеть промоутеров.
По данным ведомства, Кумбхани является гражданином Индии и остается на свободе. Ему грозит до 70 лет тюрьмы в случае осуждения по всем статьям обвинения.
Напомним, в январе 2018 года BitConnect обвинили в создании финансовой пирамиды. На пике популярности цена токена BCC превышала $500, что обеспечивало его попадание в топ-10 рейтинга CoinMarketCap.
В сентябре 2021 года Комиссия по ценным бумагам и биржам США подала гражданский иск против BitConnect, Кумбхани, экс-директора Гленна Аркаро и аффилированной с ним компании Future Money.
Регулятор обвинил группу в мошенническом и незарегистрированном размещении ценных бумаг на сумму $2 млрд через программу кредитования проекта. В декабре Аркаро пожизненно запретили участвовать в ICO.
